Instagram Downloader: the Safe, Official Ways
Want to download Instagram media? You often don't need an Instagram link downloader at all. Instagram has its own ways to save reels and your own content, with no risky sites.
Quick answer
- Public reels: tap Share, then Download.
- Your own content: “Download your information” in Accounts Center.
- Other people's posts and stories: save to a Collection, or ask the creator.

What you can save, and how
Pick what you want to keep to see the official method.
| You want to save | Official way | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Someone else's public reel | Instagram's own Download button (if the creator allows it) | Video in your camera roll, with an Instagram watermark |
| Your own posts, reels and stories | “Download your information” in Accounts Center | A full copy of everything you've shared |
| Your own stories, as you post them | Turn on automatic story saving in settings | Each story saved to your phone |
| Someone else's photo or post | Save it to a Collection, or ask the creator for the file | Bookmarked inside Instagram (not a file) |
| Someone else's story | No official way | Ask the creator, or check their Highlights |
Step by step: three official methods
Instagram's Download button for reels
- Open a reel from a public account.
- Tap the paper-plane (Share) icon.
- Tap “Download”. The reel is saved to your camera roll.
The file has an Instagram watermark. Reels with licensed music may save without sound. Creators can turn this button off.
Download your own Instagram data
- Open Settings and go to Accounts Center.
- Choose “Your information and permissions”, then “Download your information”.
- Pick Instagram, the content you want, and request the file.
Instagram prepares the file and lets you know when it is ready to download.
Save to a Collection
- Tap the bookmark icon under any post or reel.
- Choose or create a Collection.
- Find it later in your profile menu under “Saved”.
It stays inside Instagram. Nothing is downloaded, and the creator keeps control.
Why we don't offer an Instagram URL downloader
Most “Instagram online downloader” and Instagram media downloader sites work around Instagram's rules. Here is what that can mean for you.
They may ask for your login
Some sites ask for your Instagram password or session cookies. That can hand your account to strangers.
Pop-ups and malware
Many free downloader sites rely on aggressive ads and fake “download” buttons that lead to unwanted software.
They break Instagram's rules
Instagram doesn't allow collecting its content by automated means without permission, so these sites often stop working without warning.
Copyright problems
Re-uploading someone else's video or photo without permission can get your own posts removed.

Instagram downloader FAQ
Is it legal to use an Instagram downloader?
Saving content through Instagram's own features is fine. Third-party downloaders often break Instagram's terms, and re-posting other people's content without permission can infringe their copyright.
Can I download Instagram reels officially?
Yes. On a public reel, tap Share and then Download. The video is saved to your camera roll with an Instagram watermark.
Why is the Download option missing on a reel?
The creator may have turned downloads off, the account may be private, or the reel may be older than the feature. Instagram also turns it off by default for teen accounts.
Why does my downloaded reel have no sound?
Reels that use licensed music may be saved without the audio, because the music isn't the creator's to share.
Can I download someone else's Instagram story?
There is no official way. Stories are meant to be temporary. Ask the creator, or check whether they saved it to Highlights.
How do I download all my Instagram photos and videos?
Use “Download your information” in Accounts Center. Instagram prepares a file with the content you've shared.
